Cannabis Art & Science
Description: Although cannabis is a hot topic now, doctors knew about it a long time ago and used it to aid patients with it. However, it became stigmatized and criminalized and we lost the knowledge of what cannabis is about. The doctor became interested in cannabis when patients who used opioids for many years, said that cannabis assists them to function on a day-to-day basis.
It’s time for science and academic institutions across the world to recognize the importance of cannabis and enable it to become credible and useful to targeted populations. Just as it took time for opium, morphine, fentanyl, etc. to become widely used, it will also be a while for cannabis to gain recognition.
Although cannabis can potentially be a replacement for opioid-based medication, you can’t just start to take cannabis one day and stop opioids the next day. More research is needed on how to integrate cannabis from a pathway perspective so it's safe to wean patients off of their opioids with the utilization of cannabis.
